Covanta Energy is a leader in the country’s Energy-from-Waste (EfW). EfW significantly reduces landfill waste, while removing dangerous toxins, reclaiming recyclable materials and creating clean, renewable energy by combusting municipal solid waste. For their report, we wanted to shed a new light on garbage by combining contrasting studio and on-site photography with strong typography. Recently, the report was selected to appear in Communication Arts’ Design Annual 50, admitted into the Chicago Design Archive and was awarded Gold in Neenah Paper’s Paperworks competition, in addition to a buy-in from the company.
